How to Site a Home Wind Turbine

In order to work effectively, a home wind turbine must be placed in an appropriate site. There are several factors to consider when choosing the site where the wind turbine will be placed, including the surrounding landscape and any obstacles that might obstruct the flow of air towards the turbine. Placing a wind turbine in an unsuitable occasion can lead to disappointing results, and moving it can be very expensive, so it is important to do your homework in order to get it right first time.

Here are a few steps that you will need to take to ensure that your wind turbine is sited in the best possible location.

1. Check Local Wind Speeds

The amount of electricity that you can generate domestically using wind power depends hugely on the typical wind speeds in your area. According to the Energy Saving Trust, wind speeds in your area need to be at least 5 metres per second (11 mph) to make installing a turbine worthwhile. A wind speed prediction tool is available on the Energy Saving Trust website.

You can get an accurate measurement of wind speed by using an anemometer, which is a device for measuring wind speeds. You should install an anemometer and data logger in the place where you plan to put your turbine, and collect the data for at least three months to get an accurate picture of wind speeds in this location. If you can spare the time, collecting data for a year will give you an even more accurate estimation of how well your turbine will perform in all four seasons.

2. Avoid Obstacles

Trees, buildings, sharp cliffs, and other obstacles can block the wind or cause the air flow to become turbulent. Try to avoid placing your turbine downwind of these objects. The ideal location for a turbine is at the top of a smooth slope, as the curve of the ground will funnel the air smoothly up towards the blades, causing them to turn quickly and without turbulence.

Rural locations are usually much better sites for domestic wind power than sites in built-up areas, as there are fewer buildings to disrupt the flow of air. Coastal locations are particularly good sites, as the wind blows straight in from the sea without any obstructions.

3. Consider a Building-Mounted Turbine

If you have no suitable site on which to erect a free-standing turbine, you could consider installing one on the roof of your home. However, be aware that roof-mounted turbines only produce a fraction of the amount of power that a suitably sited free-standing turbine can generate: the typical building-mounted output is 1-2 kW in comparison to a free-standing output of 5-6 kW.

On the other hand, building-mounted systems are often much cheaper. This type of system could work well for you if you only want to make a small investment, as long as you accept that the amount of power you will generate is likely to be small.

4. Get Planning Permission

Not all home wind turbines require planning permission. Systems that are mounted on detached properties in England (but not Scotland) are exempt, as long as they meet certain conditions. Some free-standing turbines are also exempt from the need for planning permission.

How To Choose Mahogany, Teak And Walnut Home Office Desks

The actual difference between making use of a wooden dining table or a wooden PC desk is the space for storage supplied. If you are using an established table, you wind up being forced to arrange the personal CPU unit on the work surface area, or the ground, which could look unpleasant.

 Evaluating Desk Storage Space Supplied..

Fortunately, computer desk furniture normally have a specific space that you want to have the ability to put this cumbersome product in. These desks should similarly have roomy drawers, or a hutch region for keeping extra things like publications, paperwork and so forth.

Versatile Workstations, Corner And L-Shaped Desks

Diverse styles and shades of dark wood personal computer desks include those work stations with a number of locations readily available for certain items. Height adaptable workstations, corner computer desk models and L-shaped work areas are all bought from stunning dark wood styles.

Classic Walnut, Oak And Teak Computer Desks..

There are several distinct woods and surface finishes to pick from. Walnut computer desks, oak and teak are usually used in many home work places where the user likes to sit in magnificence - and why not, but the majority of certain types of wood can be varnished with chemical dyes and numerous tones to complete a darker finish, but this task is most likely best left to an expert.

Choose A Mahogany Or Ebony Wood Computer Desk For Your Study

If you do have the desire to colour your desk, some stain surface finishes used these days include cherry, dark mahogany and ebony wood treatment options. Steer clear of those wood desks that are usually painted with a base colour, which hides the all-natural grain and entire physical appearance of the wood, if it is wood in the slightest.

 Purchasing Affordable Wooded PC Desks..

Furthermore, be aware that a few of the more affordable wood PC desks may in fact be made of hardboard or internal 'MDF', with the outer surface area protected with a very thin layer of legitimate wood. Many individuals have been 'duped' previously with this approach to marketing and advertising deceit.

Desk Design, Organic Looks And Durability

Any modest dark wood desk is a fulfilling selection - and does not need to be too expensive, but do be aware of inexpensively constructed bogus wood desks. A high quality dark wood PC desk is definitely strongly suggested because of its 'in-situ' design, organic characteristics and durability.

We hope you learned somethiing about choosing mahogany, teak or dark wood computer desks for your home office study. See more office desks - visit www.homeofficechairs.co

Home Improvement Projects

I have been a part of many home improvement projects over the years and my most recent project was a four bedroom detached house located in Warrington. The idea started off as we would do the house up and sell it on for a profit. This is what my dad and I do in our spare time if you like. So we started work as we usually do and slowly the house took shape and I mean it really took shape. It truly did look spectacular when it was finished. However there were two problems:

1.We didnt want to sell it
2.We couldnt sell it if we wanted to

The house, although fantastic, would never fetch a fantastic price due to competition in the area. Our house is the biggest on the street and the only detached house as well but everyone seemed more interested in buying the house that is semi detached and slightly smaller and saving some money. So we decided to keep the house and truly turn it into a work of art.

How to personalize a house to make it a home

Well we where no longer selling the house so we could use a color scheme that we wanted. We had chocolate coloured furniture and the whole house including the kitchen and sofas followed this colour scheme so we decided that we could paint the walls a really dark crme colour which looked a lot better than boring white! Next we had to job of converting the garage into something of more value than a garage (the house was at the very end of the street so we had the whole road and the driveway to park in) as this seemed null and void to us.

This was a time consuming job but once it was done it truly did look amazing. The hardest part of this mini project if you like was changing the position of the door so you could go into the "mans den" from the hall rather than from the kitchen due to a long story and some unfortunate accidents along the way.

Now it was accessory time  we bought a home entertainment system for the living room and mans den  installed clapper lights in the bedrooms which where awesome  and many more bits and bobs. Once this was done I was border line thinking about bumping off the old man just to have the house to myself (joking).

However we werent quite done. I looked at the French patio doors leading to the garden and a brainwave hit. My dad and I dont usually go for conservatories for a variety of reasons including price, profit margin and time. This meant the thought had never occurred to me, lets get a conservatory.

The conservatory project took four weeks and a lot of the work was outsourced. Once the piling was finished we thought the rest of the work would take no time at all but it turned out the opposite to be true. But once it was done I can honestly say that I was ready to buy my dad out and thats what I did (still paying him off!) and it was worth every penny.

Why Leather Upholstery Is Great

There a many types of upholstery used to make your furniture finished and more beautiful, it is also used to preserve it. But form all of the types of upholstery which one is the best, Ill tell you about some of the most commonly used fabrics and you can decide which one you like the best. Im subjective and have a winner already, but Ill do my best to point out all the advantages and disadvantages so you can have a better idea about the fabrics.

 Leather

Of course Ill start with my favourite which is genuine full grain leather, which is also the most expensive of all types. This is probably it's only disadvantage and the fact that you have to purchase special conditioners. If we talk about durability this is the all time winner because high quality leather is made to last. I found a small shop for leather accessories which were at affordable prices with a hundred years guarantee  can you imagine your great-grandson can use the wallet you've purchased for your husband.

The next important feature we should pay attention to is cleaning and maintenance  things are really easy here because all you need are alcohol free wet wipes. Once a week wipe the surface and you're done. Leather is almost completely stain resistant at least the high quality one so you won't have any problems. As I said you'll have to condition it every six months or so and keep it away form continuous exposure to sunlight because it can make the leather brittle.

However a stain may occur and you'll need to use either saddle soap or a special cleaning solution but all in all you'll have absolutely no problem with this upholstery material. There are other types of leather which are used including fake leather which is also durable and easy to clean but I don't like them so much. If you decide you want it don't purchase suede because it is extremely demanding and if you spill something you'll permanently damage it, moreover it is not durable at all.

 Microfibre

A lot of advantages here and it is probably the most balanced in every way, when you combine the features they're in harmony. It is comfortable and relatively soft but not at the expense of durability, of course you can't compare it to leather but as I told you no other material can be compared to it. As for the cleaning it is the same as a microfibre cloth. Some sofas and chairs are are even with a zip so you can remove the upholstery and put it in the washing machine.

 Cotton

Used separately or in a combination of other fibres natural or synthetic cotton is one of the most preferred fabrics because it is natural. It has all the advantages of natural fibre in addition to the qualities of synthetic fibres which give it a degree of stain and liquid resistance. Moreover in some cases you can't even understand that the fabric you're touching is cotton. As for the cleaning well you'll have some problems because it is highly absorbent and can be dyed easily.

 Silk

Yes there is silk upholstery although I don't recommend it to anyone because it is extremely expensive especially if you want to purchase genuine silk. Cleaning it is a real nightmare for every housewife because the fabric is sensitive to moisture and spots are difficult to remove. Moreover it is not very durable so it is not appropriate for the living-room for example. All in all not a good investment, so don't make it.

 Synthetic Fabrics

Well they're not expensive at least the ones I have seen and they're quite durable, so far so good. They're also resistant to fading caused by the sun and most of them can be cleaned with hot water extraction or steam cleaning as most people know it. So what is the problem  well the man-made fabric which means a lot of static electricity. Moreover it is not appropriate if you have small children because of the chemicals some fabrics contain.

Moreover you'll have to regularly vacuum it, at least twice a week because it attracts a lot of dust and dirt which builds up and shorten it's life. As for the durability synthetic upholstery is rather durable, more than cotton so it is good if you have pets because it is probably the cheapest one on the market. Nevertheless I recommend you hire professional cleaning company at least once a year regardless of the upholstery you have so they can thoroughly clean an inspect it.

The matter which sets teak wood furniture from the rest is its elegance. Possibly this has to do with the stuff from which teak wood furniture is made or Perhaps it has to do with the workmanship engaged in making the wood piece of furniture. Remark is made of the theory that one of the reasons behind the elegance of teak furniture could be workmanship engaged in making the furniture, seeing that it has been aforementioned that real elegance commences in the mind.' Whatsoever the ground behind the elegance of wood teak furniture though, there is no abnegating that it is something notable seeing with - and Indeed the elegance behind wood teak furniture inclines to be so conspicuous that even the almost primitive eye can see that the details that happen to make a given set of piece of furniture are not  everyday pieces of piece of furniture.

That teak furniture is pretty is beyond doubt. This makes it a perfect alternative for the patio -- as the terrace is meant to be a point for loosening and gripping visitors. And as referred, when entertaining other mass, we often want to come out with our very best. Indeed, as it turns out, mass who opt for teak piece of furniture for their patios often profess to having masses they entertain on the terraces comment on the furniture -- with numerous opening confessing that they would like the same kind of furniture for their terraces at home. Apparently, having your clients and mass you entertain on the terrace get motivated with the furniture and make a good comment on it can be very flattering and can feel like a good reward for the little more you have to pay for the teak chairs and other pieces of piece of furniture you put on your terrace. The natural look of teak furniture also makes it a easy choice for the terrace as it mixes well with the relaxing, attached and typical theme that umpteen of us want to get with their patios.

What Are Area Rugs

When area rugs are placed in homes, they provide flexibility that would complement their themes and decors. It is necessary to wisely choose carpets to be placed in a room so that they can add color, style and warmth. These carpets can be placed in all the rooms in the house, including the kitchen and the bathroom. In this article are facts on these rugs which would make the house more lively, attractive and fun.

Rugs can serve various practical and decorative purposes and functions in the house. They provide cushion to the stone or hard wood floors and at the same time safeguard them. They protect the feet from floors that are cold and insulate a room. They absorb the room's sound and can conceal damaged or unsightly floor. The smallest types of these carpets are called throw rugs and scatter rugs and they can be placed beside a bed or on the doorway so as to catch dirt and avoid it from getting on a carpet or fine floor.

Area rugs give texture and color to the design of a room. They characterize and separate a room's different areas. They can tie together the dissimilar elements of the design of the room. They can assist in setting the room's overall tone with their style and color. They highlight certain shades in the rest of the room's design and serve as the neutral background of its decorative accents and furniture.

There are numerous designs of these rugs which can make one's imagination and creativity run wild when decorating a room with them. The most popular types and styles of these include the following:

 Persian rugs

 Oriental rugs

 Contemporary rugs

 Transitional rugs

 Flokati rugs

 Braided rugs

 Canvas rugs

There are things to remember when owning these types of rugs. Just like carpet, they should be cleaned regularly. Houses with residents allergic to dust mites or dust must clean their rugs often as these collect grime and dirt. To avoid falling and slipping when walking on a rug, a suitable rug pad must be used to secure it properly to the floor.

The entire effect of these rugs to a room should be considered when purchasing one. These rugs can be bought to help solve certain problems and address design goals. A big room that feels cold and impersonal can be warmed up by adding a rug that has a complementary and warm color. A dark room can be lightened up with a light-shaded rug. A small room can also look large with rug that has a light color.

Placing a coffee table, chair and sofa on a small rug can make a portion of a room look cozy and good enough for a conversational space. Installing a small rug or hall runner on hallways can make people be aware of where to walk on when going to a certain place, furniture or entryways in the house.

It makes a lot of sense to study how to construct brick steps since it is useful for your everyday routine. Unlike other home improvement projects, you do not have to possess a lot of knowledge and skills about carpentry to finish the project.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED TO BUILD BRICK STEPS

The materials and tools needed are trowel, bricks, mortar, cement mixture, shovel, two by four wooden boards, measuring tape, saw, hammer, nails, bolts and screws.

 STEPS IN CREATING BRICK STEPS

You should first pick the location of your project. Fix it by cleaning all rocks and grass. Since you will be placing cement mixture in the area, it needs to be flat as possible. Make square frames from the wooden boards. Use a saw to create each part. Remember to create it the same size as the foot steps that you want to create.

This will serve as the framework for your set-up so make sure that all of the measurements are correct. Place it on the correct location. Mix the cement mix if necessary. Carefully place it on the square. Use a trowel to even the surface. Check to see if there are any bumps. Allow the set-up to harden for twenty-four hours. Use the tape measure to check the total distance from the top of the porch to the base that you created.

Aside from that, check the height of the brick. This will help you of how many foot steps that you need to create. Place a one inch mortar mixture over the cement mixture. Flatten over some bumps that you will see in the set-up. Place the bricks on top of each other on the mortar mixture. Place a half an inch space for each bricks.

Once all of the bricks have been place in the first layer, use the trowel to scoop some mortar mixture. Use the mortar the fill in the spaces that you have made. Apply it evenly on the bricks. Place a 2nd layer. Keep doing this process until you finish. Finally, scoop up the excess mixture around the brick edges.

 ADDITIONAL TIPS

Make sure that you get the correct measurements. Use the tape measurement because even a slight measurement mistake could make the whole thing collapse. Use gloves to protect your hands while carrying the bricks.

If the weather is too hot, work in your project in the afternoons to avoid heat stroke. Aside from that, remember to take breaks as many as possible so that you will not be too exhausted and it will make things easier and enjoyable.

Benefits of Eco Friendly Furniture

As people are becoming more conscious about the environment, the demand for eco friendly products is increasing. And when it comes to furniture, the trend of going green is fast picking up.

Customers nowadays prefer to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing products for home dcor and furniture. And why not? After all, eco friendly furniture are made from non toxic, renewable materials. Moreover, they offer umpteen benefits:

Harmless to your health - Environmentally friendly home dcor products and furniture are harmless to your health. After all health is wealth. You may choose a rather decorative piece of furniture for your home but if you come to know it was made from noxious materials and can be harmful to your kids and your health, would you still buy it? No way! Furniture made from toxic substances can affect the indoor air quality badly.

Harmless manufacturing process - With eco friendly furniture you can be sure that its manufacturing process didnt harm the environment in any way. Now consider wooden furniture. You might think that since it is made from wood, it has caused environmental damage since trees have been cut to acquire the wood.

But thats not the case. Eco friendly wooden furniture (unlike regular wooden furniture) is made from wood which are taken from certified wood harvesting sites. On these sites trees are grown for harvesting purpose only and as soon as old trees are cut new trees are planted at the same time. At times, the furniture which looks wooden is not actually made of wood. It can be a product of bamboo which is a fast growing grass.

Prevent deforestation - By purchasing environmentally friendly products, you prevent deforestation, logging and global warming to some extent in your own way. You do your part (every tiny bit is important because as they say "water drops make an ocean") in reducing waste and saving the environment.

Cost-effective - And best part is you dont need to shell out huge bucks on buying eco friendly furniture. They are quite affordable and you get all the benefits of green furniture.

There is a good variety of both modern and traditional designs available for eco-friendly indoor and outdoor furniture. You dont always have to hunt around for a shop that specializes in such furniture, You can easily buy online from websites which offer contemporary environment friendly furniture for your children's room, modern elegantly designed furniture for outdoor and indoor areas and even furniture for your beloved pets

Gone are the days when eco-friendly furniture was considered to be boring and unstylish. In fact there are stylish and contemporary eco friendly furniture for people with sophisticated, rich tastes. Now green furniture looks just as great as regular high end furniture. You can have very contemporary looking sofas and dining sets or a unique jell fish chairs to do up your home.

Environmentally friendly furniture is cost efficient also. Products that are powered by solar energy, efficiently burning fireplaces etc. save you a lot of money.

Manufacturers will produce eco friendly products only if their market has growth potential. So when more and more people become aware of eco products and choose them above regular furniture, manufacturers will be encouraged to produce more such green products at competitive prices to meet the growing demand. What is required now is an awareness about eco-friendly products and a willingness to buy such furniture. It will then be a joint effort from both manufacturers and customers in making the environment greener.

Bristol and Bath's list of building solution

When it comes to home renovation, never allow a service provider to begin job without having an authorized deal initially. Trendy Low Slung Furniture

People are slowly becoming more casual and more comfortable with their furniture and other home accessories and decor items. For 2012 and beyond, you can expect to see a number of manufacturers and retailers selling furniture that is low slung, or closer to the ground. These home accessories will actually compliment a variety of home decor looks, which will only increase their popularity in the coming years.

 In the Bedroom

For bedroom furniture, expect to see lowered platform beds and perhaps even lower heights for side tables and other furniture pieces. Low slung dressers have been growing in popularity in recent years and will continue to be popular for bedroom spaces. Clean lines and modern looks will be popular, however other trends including eco-friendly reclaimed materials and raw looks as well as industrial and rustic looks will also be trendy for bedroom furniture.

 In the Living Room

In the living room, you can expect to see plenty of low slung furniture from coffee tables to side tables, as these will be following the lead of the sofa. Low slung sofas and other seated furniture pieces will be particularly trendy this year and likely well into 2013, as people are looking to create more comfortable spaces.

For low slung sofas, keep an eye out for clean modern lines and angles, which best compliment the lower slung look. Opt for solid colors and bold colors, but avoid patterns, which can be too visually overwhelming for these furniture pieces. Furthermore, keep an eye out for gray upholsteries, which are overtaking beige as the new neutral for home decor.

Since sofas will be lower to the ground and more comfortable, you can expect to see manufacturers following suit and also making tables and other furniture pieces to suit the lower needs. After all, its no fun bumping your head or your feet on a side table when youre lounging on the sofa. With this in mind, keep an eye out for trendy pieces such as the dipped look, in which the top half of the furniture appears to have been dipped in paint or another material. Aluminum, hammered metals and bright lacquered finishes will be popular for side tables, coffee tables and even stools.

Low Slung Furniture for Other Spaces

Despite the popularity of this trend, few people will actually incorporate it into every space of their home. This is because outside of a few low slung tables, chairs, sofas and the bedroom furniture as mentioned before, there is very little in terms of low slung furniture. After all, no one wants to be sitting in a low slung office chair or be sitting at a low slung desk or table.

With this in mind, be wary of what pieces you invest in. With the low slung trend, you want to use these pieces in spaces that you feel most comfortable in: the bedroom or the living room. The low slung trend is not suited for home offices or kitchens for obvious reasons.

Using Stone For Interior Design

Using natural materials in your interior design project can be a great way to get an interesting design that will last the test of time. From wood to stone, natural materials look great and can suit nearly every design theme imaginable. But using stone in your design can be a challenge, especially if youve never worked with it before. Use this guide to using stone in your design and youll be sure to get a design that you will love for years to come.

 Tiles:

One of the most common and affordable ways to decorate with stone in your bathroom or kitchen design is by installing stone tile. Stone tiles can come in a wide variety of materials from granite to marble and can be used in shower enclosures, countertops and backsplashes to create a powerful design element that suits nearly any design theme or dcor. Stone tiles can be more expensive than conventional tiles but last longer and can be more durable than ceramic tiles.

 Large Stones:

A common way to decorate around fireplaces and mantelpieces is by using large stones set in mortar. Rustic living room designs especially benefit from stone interiors. And since larger stones come in such a wide variety of materials, you can be sure youre going to choose a stone texture and color that suits your design theme perfectly. When installing any stone material, be sure to choose a local stone quarry for the best savings.

 Medium Stones:

Medium sized stones are typically around 6-8 inches in diameter and can be used for many different design ideas from bathroom designs for the shower enclosure to outdoor areas for walkways and patios. Medium sized river rock are smooth and round stone materials that work great for floors, but can also be used on walls to create interesting vertical, diagonal or random patterns. Choose a colored mortar mix and add to the luster of any medium stone design.

 Small Stones:

Smaller sized stones make for a unique textured look that makes an appealing addition to most design themes. Small river rock can be manipulated together on walls and floors using a clear coat of laminate to adhere the stones in place. These smaller stones work best in dry areas like bedroom or living room designs. Wet conditions should be avoided when using smaller laminated stones as they can get very slippery underfoot. Add a mixture of colorful river rocks or a few medium sized river rocks to break up the monotony of the smaller river rock look.

The Laura Mostaghel Home And Interior Decor Collection

I would like to tell you about the work of one of America's most outstanding and fastest-rising artists, Laura Mostaghel. Her complete catalog is in itself a work of art.

Laura produces hand-made and -crafted works that will grace any home in your choice of:

 Paintings Vases and Tile Murals
 Watercolors Jewelry Pins
 Gicles Ceramic Boxes
 Prints Etchings

Her exquisite pieces are well-known to the rich and famous - household names long-known for their taste in fine art including Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Clint Eastwood - as well as to connoisseurs and collectors of beautiful things.

While many of Laura's original oils on canvas carry prices commensurate with their beauty and originality, she has also made many of these exquisite works available as gicles at prices affordable to most collectors. Some of these beautiful paintings in the glice format are available in signed and numbered limited editions on acid free archival paper. Many artists will create a series from a canvas painting onto canvas. Laura chooses, instead, to keep her editions on paper so all canvas paintings are originals and any series will be on paper. However, the paper is 30.5 lb. Somerset Velvet coated cotton duck, cold press/acid free in museum white. Collectors will want to know that this paper has almost as much cotton as regular canvas fabric and will thus retain its intensity of the paints as well as canvas that is primed and UV protected.

These will of course be somewhat more expensive but will in years to come be revered by collectors.

Laura's tile murals and vases are readily identifiable as unique to her studio for their use of bold, vivid colors and strong lines in contrast with soft, light areas depicted in clear glaze. These pieces are fired four times in a kiln in order to create a rich, harmonious effect for them.

Her exquisite, hand-painted collectible series of decorative art boxes depicting women in colorful interiors, cats, and florals are wonderful gifts and keepsakes. Each box is an original like no other and is trimmed and accented in 22 karat gold. These boxes are also kiln-fired four separate times to achieve the quality that defines Laura's art.

Please use this opportunity to look at Laura's marvelous Display Page to see a showcase of color and frame coordinates for decorating your walls while enhancing the art you have purchased. Note that all glices from her studio are sold unframed. This page is presented as an idea page for determining your framing needs.

Often you will see that a piece you greatly desired has already been sold. By special arrangement with Laura we can help you overcome this disappointment.

Since all originals are by definition unique, you cannot obtain a copy. You can, however, request Laura to create a similar piece for you. This means in effect the subject, themes, and atmosphere of the sold piece will be captured in a unique rendering depicted on a new original.

This service will be available only on orders over $5,000 and will require a 50% deposit. Although a client will necessarily be required to wait during the creation process, Laura will send you a sketch of her new inspiration for your approval and/or suggestions before the final work is completed.

Shopping Online for Wall Art

So you're finally ready to buy some art to decorate the walls of your new home. You have some vague idea of the kind of art that would fit in with the decor of your home. But you have a problem. Where are you going to find them? You could paint them yourself  but you're not an artist. You could go to your nearest art shop and choose from the limited variety they have on offer  but the shop is miles away. The only other option is to go online to search for your ideal art piece, and have it shipped to your doorstep. Shopping online for art has significant advantages over buying art from a retail store. Heres why:

An online store has more variety  much, much more. You will never find so many different genres of art in a normal retail store. The reason is simple; retail stores do not have enough space to keep so many art pieces. So you are terribly limited when it comes to choices.

Online shopping is accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. If you can buy your art from an online store, why bother to travel miles to your nearest art shop? People living in remote areas away from the city do not have easy access to art shops or galleries. Occasionally the flea market would come into town, but even then you might not find anything you fancy. Even in the city itself, there normally aren't too many art shops around for you to pick and choose.

Buying art from an art shop is inconvenient for those who have to travel quite a distance. Even if you did find an art piece you like, you still need to bring it home after you purchase it. You might choose a large art piece, and that would pose a major problem if you had to lug it all the way home. You also risk damaging it if you were not careful. Online merchants handle all the shipping for you, giving you no worries at all. If your art piece arrives damaged, you can always send it back, requesting for another one.

Online stores offer a huge number of products as compared to retail stores. How many art retail stores can squeeze thousands of art pieces into their shop? Not many I suppose. This is not the case with online galleries. An online retailer does not have to worry about shop space, only disk space. Many of them offer thousands of art pieces for you to choose from. You are literally spoilt for choice.

Online art shopping expedites your purchase decision. Shopping online will shorten the time you'll need to choose your favorite art pieces. Many online art galleries allow you to view thumbnail images of their art pieces. You can view as many as twenty thumbnails on one single page. This allows you to view more variety of products within a shorter amount of time, enabling you to make your purchase decision faster.

You can instantly decide if the art is right for your home. All you need to do is fire up your laptop, log on to your online store, and walk around your house. You'll be able to see in an instant if the art pieces displayed will fit in nicely with the theme of your home. This is a significant advantage over buying art from a retail store, where many a times you will be disappointed because the art piece looked great in the store, but didn't fit in with your home when you brought it back.

Online stores are also able to provide value added services like framing. They will do everything for you; all you need to do is choose the frame and materials. The framed art piece will then be shipped to you with all the necessary accessories to mount on your wall. Your job is just to receive the goods, unwrap it, and hang it up. Its that simple. Because you choose to make use of the merchants framing services, many of them are also able to give a discount on the overall cost. This means significant savings as compared to purchasing the art, and then framing it somewhere else.

Enjoy your art shopping!

Staples of Asian Home Decor

Asian home decor is very popular and not hard to achieve if you have some imagination and are ready to invest in a few essential accessories. What you should remember is that Asian home decor is all about subtlety and smart distribution of things inside the house. Either it is based on feng shui, minimalism, or tropical patterns  the goal is to evoke an Asian look. In fact, even just a few simple accessories can create Asian feel and make your home look exotic.

Red and Gold, Not Gaudy

Chinese influence made red a very popular Asian furniture and accessory color. You can safely use red furniture for your Asian home decor. Real antique Chinese furniture does not generally have Chinese words or gaudy flowers painted on it. Avoid cheap and poorly stylized pieces of furniture  they will fail to create an authentic look, simply because Asian home decor is all about good taste.

While carving and gilt are staples of Asian home decor, they dont look gaudy, but rather subtle and rich. Throughout Asia, adding a little gilt detail to furniture is common and tasteful. There is also a symbolism to the carving for people who know how to read it. Experts can tell where and why a piece was created just by looking at the kinds of patterns carved into the wood.

Fine Fabrics

Asia was already home to a thriving silk industry thousands of years ago. While silk is still a luxury, it is also typical of fine Asian home decor. This does not mean your whole couch must be upholstered in silk, but it does mean some throw pillows or a footstool covered in silk should be part of the look. There are really plenty of choices, and you just need to be creative. You could hang a picture of a woman wearing a kimono, or you could even hang a real kimono. The latter is definitely more interesting.

Batik or hand-woven textiles of Southeast Asia are good option to help create Asian home decor. In Indonesia and Malaysia, intricate batiks are used in traditional clothing for everyone from peasants to sultans. The best are hand-made in a restrained, geometric style. Some communities still weave on handlooms and create symmetric masterpieces with just a few colors of silk or cotton thread. Simply hanging one of the fabrics on the wall is a beautiful and authentic touch for your Asian home decor.

Flowers to Complete the Look

Normally, Asian home decor doesnt use flowery fabrics, but fresh flowers are a definitely a must in the home. Of course, in Western countries fresh stems of orchid and lotus are a luxury and might not be available at all unlike in tropical Asia. Yet, a few high-quality silk flowers, pictures or paintings of flowers can complete the look of your Asian home decor.

Office Interior Decorating

Like our home, our office or workplace is an important part of our life. There can be little denial of the fact that we spend a major portion of our lifetime in the office.

Based on this observation, you will be able to contemplate how to improve the facilities and design of the office. The concept of the home office is gaining popularity, with more and more people choosing to work from home.

If your office is a home-based one, then you need to select the suitable area and plan the interior decorating accordingly. The main criterion for selecting a suitable place for your office is silence. The area should not be disturbed by any other event in the house. Next, choose the suitable interior-decorating scheme.

Whatever interior decorating scheme you choose, you need to allocate enough room for movement and accommodation of all the necessary equipment and furniture. For example, your workstation should not be too crowded or muddled up. You can use smaller objects instead of large ones. For example, you can use old trays as stacks for piling stationery and other rough documents. The chairs and computer tables should be soft but sturdy, with as many compartments as possible. This will save you the much-needed space.

You need to have separate plugs and boards so that the wires and other cords are not messed up. After all, you cannot afford to waste your precious time, struggling with those jumbled knots everyday! You have got other jobs to do.

Talking of a general or commercial office, some guiding factors for interior decorating are freedom of movement, appearance, maximum space utilization, and so on.

There should be a separate workstation for each employee, where he or she can work with ease and comfort. Also, the lighting and air-conditioning facilities should be correctly fitted to cover all sides evenly. There should be enough air circulation through windows, which of course, should be beautifully draped with curtains or blinds. Only if the surroundings are comfortable will a persons mind think freely and creatively.

For an office, starting from the entry point to the cafeteria lounge, interior-decorating ideas must be chosen carefully. Safety is also important in big offices, since a large number of employees work there. So, measures like emergency exits, automatic water sprays in case of fire accidents; fire extinguishers and alarms should be adopted in the designing stage of the building itself.

You can decorate the reception or guest room with beautiful bouquets, which will be refreshing to look at, and spread their freshness all around.

In big factories, office interior decorating ideas can be followed to reduce manual labor. You can opt for low-cost furnishings and furniture.

While framing the structure or design of your office, you can be immensely rewarded in terms of satisfaction and full value for your money, if you seek a professionals help. He will be able to suggest what you need to include and what to avoid.

Noren Door Curtains

A Noren, a Japanese door curtain, is great if you want to add a ZEN accent to your home's interior. Getting one can also be a good idea if you are a Feng Shui fan. According to the ancient rules, the use of door curtains can be a simple way to block harmful energy. It can also be a way out of difficult Feng Shui situations, especially when remodeling is out of question.

There are a variety of unique Japanese door curtain designs available on the market. You need to choose a proper design in order to be able to achieve a certain Feng Shui effect. All sorts of prosperity designs are a popular option among the western people. A popular symbol that appears on a lot of Noren curtains is the Wealth Cat. The Beckoning Cat, as it is often called, is believed to bring good luck to the owners of the property as well as attract customers into a shop. The Wealth Cat symbol comes from Tokyos Gotokuji temple, where a shrine dedicated to it was built centuries ago.

There is an old legend about a priest from this temple and his cat that had the ability to bring good fortune to his owner and the temple. As a feudal lord named Naotaka was passing by the temple, the cat started beckoning him inside. The lord and his people decided to stop there and rest. When a thunderstorm broke, the lord was safe in the temple. In order to express his appreciation, Naotaka started paying tribute to the temple. Today, a picture of the cat with a paw raised in the air can be found in many places and on countless products including Noren door curtains.

Other traditional designs that can often be found on the Japanese Noren include Koi fish, waves, waterfalls, bamboo or dragons. If you are willing to incorporate Noren door curtains into your home's interior, it would be good to familiarize yourself with the Feng Shui principles. This will allow you to achieve the desired effect in both the visual and spiritual terms.

Luxury Carpet

Luxury carpet is for those that want to invest in a floor covering that enhances the interior of a home. With the popularity of hard surface flooring such as tile and hardwood flooring, luxury carpet often gets overlooked. However, as a home owner or decorator, you can do so much more with luxury carpet than with other types of flooring. It is much easier to draw out colors and textures with luxury carpet because of the extensive offerings available. Colors in a room can be accented easily with the choices or patterned, printed, or multi-toned luxury carpet. Also, rooms don't have to have a flat texture. Texture of the walls, ceiling, windows and furniture can be supplemented by luxury carpet styles like, high low, cut loop, patterned and sculpted. Luxury carpeting is not a specific style. The term luxury, when mentioned with carpet, implies longer lasting, softer yarns, better stain resistance and thicker constructions. There are 4 primary types of luxury carpets to consider when you are designing the perfect room setting.

Plush carpets are commonly thought of as one of the primary luxury carpeting choices. Plush carpet can be textured, velvet (saxony), or trackless. The common theme with plush luxury carpets is the height of each yarn is the same. This creates a uniform appeal to the carpeting. The thick, dense velvet plush versions can imply a very formal, rich feeling in a room's design. Textured plush luxury carpets can have what appear to be highlights due to the way the yarn is slightly crimped and twisted. Although the colors of the yarn are the same, the highlights can appear to brighten a room somewhat.

Shag and frieze luxury carpet are a very hot trend. The deep, thick feel of a shag floor is wonderful to the feet and gives a warm, comforting feeling to a dcor. The shag's cousin, frieze carpeting, is similar that it gives a casual look and feel to a home's aura. Shag carpeting tends to have big, bulky yarn whereas, frieze has tightly crimped and high twist amounts in the luxury carpets yarn system. Both of these types can give a wonderful warm feeling and add slight texture to the room due to their design.

Patterned luxury carpet had faded out for a while as a common option for floor covering. However, it is roaring back and poised to be the next big hit. Manufacturers are now offering more styles than ever in patterned luxury carpets. The amazing thing with the newer patterned carpet styles is that both formal, traditional as well as contemporary designs are being manufactured. Coupled with bold, new colors, patterned carpet is now a designers dream. The high low effect that patterned luxury carpet has gives amazing texture appeal to rooms.

Berber carpeting is still very popular due to the ability to blend several contrasting colors into the large loops. The manufacturing of berber luxury carpet lends itself well to adding different colors of yarn into the loops themselves. By having a base color, usually an earthtone shade, the other contrasting colors call pull other color schemes in the room out like no other form of luxury carpeting. When considering berbers, stay with 100% nylon yarn or wool yarn. These yarns will last much longer than other blended yarn types used in standard berber carpeting.

Elements Of Interior Design

Whether you are working with existing furnishings and fabrics or starting from scratch with an empty room, you should always use the elements and principles of design as a guide in choosing everything. The elements are your tools or raw materials, much like paints are the basics to a painter. The elements of design include space, line, form, color, and texture. The principles of design relate to how you use these elements and are balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion and scale, and harmony and unity.

 Element #1: Space
Space defines the boundaries and sets the limits on the functional and decorative things you can do. Usually you will not determine the space; instead, you will be faced with the challenge of using the existing space effectively.

 Element #2: Line
The lines in a room are second only to color in importance when it comes to setting the overall mood or feeling of a room. The lines of window fashions should support the dominant line of the room. In most situations, the dominant line is straight (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) rather than curved. Your choice of emphasizing the direction of lines will determine the mood you want to create.
Vertical lines add height and dignity, creating a more formal atmosphere. Vertical lines also balance the horizontal lines found in most furniture.
Horizontal lines tend to create a restful, informal feeling. They work well in casual rooms or as relief to the strong verticals of formal rooms.
Diagonal lines attract attention and lead the eye. They can be disturbing unless supported by verticals or opposing diagonals.
Curved lines add a softening effect and keep the room from becoming too stiff. Use curved lines with some restraint to keep the room from becoming too soft and overly feminine.

 Element #3: Form
Lines that join together produce the form, or shape, of an object, which in turn impacts the overall feeling of a room. Straight lines create rectangles, square and triangles. Curved lines form circles and ovals. The rectangle is the most popular form and is often the dominant shape in a room. Triangles provide stability and curved shapes soften the contours of objects.

 Element #4: Color
More than any other element, color can make a room beautiful. Color can set the mood. It can make a room warmer or cooler, larger or smaller. It can hide unsightly features or call attention to the center of interest. Even with the simplest furnishings, the proper use of color can transform a room.

 Element #5: Texture
Texture is playing an increasingly important role in home decorating. Visual texture is a materials apparent smoothness or roughness. To maintain and enhance a casual feeling, use fabrics that are more heavily textured, nubby or rough visual texture. Smooth, shiny surfaces such as silk, moir, chintz and silk-like looks support a more formal feeling in a room. Using several levels of complementary textures adds variety and maintains interest. However, it is a good idea to avoid dramatic contrasts in texture.
